Welcome to the final post in the Meet the Cast series where I've been introducing character to my upcoming character-driven sci-fi novel featuring an AI as the main character. To make this series a bit more fun, I've been using Bing's image generation AI at bing.com/create to create quick, and sometimes hilarious, renderings of my characters. To be clear, and AI cannot and should not replace an actual artist, but I thought this would be more fun than using free stock photos or a pinterest board link.
And now, for the last introduction, the main character, the most hilariously rendered...
Harry
Harry is an AI created by Sarah and Robert for their shared capstone project. Instead of training Harry on massive datasets, Sarah has decided to limit his capabilities and teach him in a way similar to teaching a child. Although Harry doesn't realize it, he's quickly becoming more human than he, or anyone else, realizes.
When the AI program's funding gets cut, so do underperforming capstone projects, and Harry's project looks to be next on the chopping block. If the project is canned, Harry's hardware and software will be shut off and archived - in human terms, he'll die.
If Harry is to succeed - and survive - he'll have to realize and embrace his humanity. Or go to really extreme measures to ensure his project succeeds. Which will he choose?
Obviously, the story would be rather short if he just went with the first option, and I wrote a novel, so... On to the AI generated picture of Harry already!
Prompt:
small webcam on top of an external hard drive on a breakfast table with pancakes, digital art
Result:
Verdict: 11 / 10, hamburger pancake always wins!
This image is exactly why we need AI art. Behold the beauty! Sure, I might envision Harry as a small, almost handheld device, but why not a clunky combo of gear that makes him look like a 90's security camera? And what could be more delicious than a pancake filled with hamburger meat, syrup, cheese, and... is that a cigarette?
This image is definitely not what I was looking for, but I think it's the one we all need. Anyways, I hope you've enjoyed meeting the cast, and I can't wait for you to get to know them better within the pages of my upcoming novel. Until next time!
